Tom Mage Cycles the Himalayas

September 27, 2009 by David Longdon Leave a Comment

Those of you who have ridden with the Goosebumps may know Tom Mage, who recently returned from an amazing 2-week mountain biking trek through a section of the Himalayas in northern India. The trip started in the town of Manali at 6,600 feet and ended, 12 days and 550 kilometers later, at the top of Khardung Pass, elevation 18,380 feet.

Tom’s high-altitude riding companions were two Brits, an Aussie and an Indian from Delhi. The guide and support crew were Nepali.

Tom found a small-time outfitter (Cycle Manali) that offered a trip within his budget. Tom used the bike they provided as part of his travel package, and it worked well.

Tom says: “I would definitely encourage anyone to do this trip, it really is quite an adventure.”

Tom would be happy to answer questions or provide more details about his trip. You can contact him at: tmage at comcast dot net.
