Chris Ragsdale Wins Furnace Creek 508!

October 4, 2009 by David Longdon Leave a Comment

Way to go Chris!

I happened to check the web site just as the live video stream showed Chris finishing and looking fresh as a daisy. No audio, though, so I didn’t catch any of the post-race interview. Did anyone else hear any audio?

Based on the time splits it looks like Chris paced off defending champ Michael Emde the entire race until the final climb where he put 15+ minutes on Emde.

From the FC 508 web site:

Chris Ram Ragsdale wins the 2009 Furnace Creek 508! A five-year effort: 9th in 2005, DNF in 2006, 2nd last year, then the victory in 2009!

On the final climb, Chris Ram Ragsdale put 15 minutes on three-time champ Michael Alpine Ibex Emde!

Can you imagine having enough gas in the tank after 475 miles to punish the competition in the homestretch?

Finish line photos.

As of 5:23PM Sunday: 26 DNFs!

8:34 PM: Bellinghamster Brian Ecker finished only ~5 minutes ahead of 47-year old Charlie Engle. I’m sure Brian had quite a battle on his hands as well! Bravo!
