Update: Chris Ragsdale @ RAAM 2013

November 21, 2012 by David Longdon Leave a Comment

With notable success in “short” ultra events like the National 24 Challenge and Furnace Creek 508, Seattle ultra distance phenom Chris Ragsdale is taking it to the next level and is signed up as a solo racer at Race Across America (RAAM) 2013.

Chris has assembled an enthusiastic crew and logistics team who have already done significant work to get his project underway, not the least of which are the folks who have provided financial support. Chris’ team has projected costs at approximately $30,000, and they have raised about half of that goal in less than 2 months. Chris is inspired and motivated by the support, though he recognizes they still have a long way to go.

Ragsdale RAAM 2013 has partnered with the Olive Crest Foundation as the team’s official charity. Olive Crest has transformed the lives of over 60,000 abused, neglected and at risk children and their families.

On the sponsorship side of things, McHale Performance, Seattle Performance Medicine and Olson’s Bicycles continue to support Chris in 2013. New sponsors for 2013 are Kali Protectives, Byrne Thermo, and Red Point Coaching.

Bike Tires Direct is also providing support: Use the promo code “RAGS2013” and get 5% off full-priced items and BTD will send a portion of the sale to support Ragsdale RAAM 2013.

To support his training, Chris continues to be part of the Kestrel/Imperial River Racing Team, which provides him an outlet for connecting with other ultra distance riders, but he recently joined Cycle U/Apex Racing, which gives him an outlet to really hammer and get some road race experience as well.

Chris recently did a successful presentation and ride at Cycle U in West Seattle, and has scheduled additional events to continue to connect with folks who are interested in meeting and riding with him, but were unable to attend that first event:

Dec 8th Saturday 1pm
Cycle U Sand Point
Join Chris and the RAAM 2013 crew for a presentation/fundraiser about their plans.

Dec 30th Sunday 9am
South Lake Union Park
A 50 mile urban route that covers many of the local hills Chris has trained on for years. Cap off your 2012 cycling season and get inspired for something new in 2013 by riding with Chris and his crew, and supporting the RAAM 2013 team. $10 suggested donation, food stop provided, and frequent regroups. All are welcome. (Parking available at the NW end of the park near Kenmore Air.)

Jan 25th Friday 7pm: “Spin Across America”
The Bike Stand
The crew from the Bike Stand has generously organized a 24 hr Spin event to help raise funds for Ragsdale RAAM 2013 team. Everyone is welcome to join in the action for 1 hour or all 24. This epic trainer session will include guest spin instructors, late night movies, primes, prizes, and a support crew to bring goodies so participants can keep on spinning. If you can’t attend, contact Chris about becoming an hourly sponsor.
