As part of the opening of Futurama Redux: Urban Mobility After Cars and Oil, Florian Lorenz, Executive Director of Smarter than Car joined Tom Fucoloro (The Seattle Bike Blog) and myself for a short bike tour of Seattle. The objective was to show Florian some of the challenges and opportunities that face area transportation planners.

We cycled a route from the west end of the I-90 bike tunnel, down to Pioneer Square, then up 2nd to Seattle Center:
Tom is fluent with Seattle’s transportation infrastructure and introduced the issues at each of our stops. Under the Alaskan Way Viaduct Tom and Florian discussed the current plan to build a nine-lane surface roadway rather than a park and multiuse trails that would arguably provide greater benefit to tourists and residents.
Futurama Redux is showing now through February 17 at the Center for Architecture & Design.
