Hi, there. I know why you’re here. You heard about the 120 mile option and thought “who are these insane people? I wish there was a shorter option in what is CLEARLY an extremely beautiful area of Washington.” Ask and you shall receive! This tough and beautiful 50-miler starts on Saturday and has an extremely generous 24-hour cutoff. Perfect for those who want to tackle a tough, rugged course, but are worried they won’t have enough time to finish.
If for some reason that intimidates you even more, consider our East Side or Die Trail Half Marathon, which starts Saturday evening.
The 50 mile race will take you up and over the rock face of Mount Lillian before launching you along and through the frigid waters of Devil’s Gulch. The first loop is 36 miles, with several aid stations and water drops. After finishing the 36-mile loop, you’ll head back out for a 13-mile loop to top off your mileage at 50 miles.
We’ll have the party going at the Ski area until the last runner comes through, guaranteed.
Typical weather: The daytime temperatures in this area can get very hot, and parts of the course are fairly exposed; evenings can get chilly this time of year.
Required gear: In July, this area is prone to being hot and dry. The aid stations are far enough apart that runners are required to carry at least two water bottles or a hydration pack. Nights can be very cool, so bring layers if you are running at night.
This event is CUPLESS – please bring your own containers for fluids during the race (bottles, soft flasks, and collapsible cups) as well as after the race (for your beer!).
The race start/finish is approximately a 3-hour drive from downtown Seattle. Stay tuned for more information on lodging near the start/finish.
Dog policy: Sorry, no doggos 🙁
From the resort, runners will run in a clockwise direction, taking the Squilchuck trail to Forest Road 9712, then to Mount Lillian Trail 1601. From here, runners will take Tronsen Ridge Trail 1204 to Red Hill trail 1223 and Red Hill Spur Trail 1223.1 all the way to NF-7100. Once they reach the road, runners will turn around and take Devil’s Gulch trail 1220 to Pipeline Trail and back to Squilchuck trail. This loop is approximately 36 miles.
The 13-mile loop begins and ends at the ski resort and follows the same route at beginning and end, but cuts across on Mission Ridge Trail 1201. 50 mile runners will do this loop after completing the larger loop.
