Gravel Circumnavigation of the Olympic Range (GCOR)
June 27 - June 30
GCOR is a multi-day self-supported bikepacking route around the Olympic Mountain Range primarily on gravel and forest roads. The route is challenging and the terrain can be remote. The route begins in Sequim and rides to Quilcene before visiting all the major rivers that flow into Hood Canal. At Potlatch you head towards the coast and the first stretch of isolation. It’s 100 miles to the next anything three times. The first of those anythings is Lake Quinault and the beginning of the rainforests. You will ride through massive moss draped spruce and maple trees seeing a million shades of green. We will look upon the mighty Pacific Ocean and then resupply at Forks, the next anything. The last leg is an incredible journey East through a rainforest and down to Lake Crescent. From there the Olympic Adventure Route and Olympic Discovery Trail will return us through Port Angeles (the third ‘anything’) to Sequim.
There is a lot of climbing in this route. There are 7 climbs in excess of 2000’ 5 in the first 200 miles. The route will test you, and thrill you. It will amaze and confound. It will just be you and your bike.
