GuerillaGrind1 60 | 73
January 22, 2022
An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day fourth of January, repeating until January 25, 2025
“This sounds like a terrible idea. When do we start?”
Think of this as a wave start ITT gravel fondo. Or, think of it as a staggered start, full drop, group ride. Basically, it’s an excuse for us to get together, learn some new roads and have new experiences. Together, but separate. This is 2021.
Ride the Medio Course for 60ish miles or the Grande Challenge for 73 miles of surprising gravel roads just outside civilization. The routes feature the secret squirrel trail to Green Mountain and the easy gravel miles of the Lost Highway.
Your time starts when your arriving ferry lets you off.
Your time stops when you reach the ferry dock.
When you finish, send an email with your Strava file (or similar) and the exact time you reached the terminal.
The Grande Challenge pays a ca$h prize (well Venmo) to the top male finisher and the top female finisher. ($1 from all entries goes into the Grande Award pot). To qualify, riders must visit the control point. The control is at the end of a crazy little road that will surely keep you on your toes. Ride down to it, take a picture of the structure, and climb out. REMEMBER: YOU MUST SUBMIT A PICTURE OF THE STRUCTURE TO GET CREDIT FOR THE GRANDE CHALLENGE.
There are four morning boats: 6:00, 7:35, 8:35, and 10:00. If you already reside “on the other side” the ride still starts from the terminal when the ferry you’ve chosen begins to unload. The crossing time is approximately 1 hour. The return boats to shoot for are 3:00, 4:15, 5:30, and 6:40. Make sure you reach the terminal and note the exact time to stop your clock. Do this before seeking out food. COVID restrictions may limit food options.
What do you get for your registration? Not much really. The route remains secret until the day before the event. But these are great roads that link together nicely. There is no support, no swag, no guarantees, of any kind on this ride! This is a tested route, and an appointed day to ride it. The event organizer will tabulate your efforts and show you how your friends did. You supply the ambition, the grit, the sweat and any tears needed to return home. Those participating in the GRANDE CHALLENGE have a chance to post their first result of the season.
Do not expect any stores outside of Bremerton. There is a high likelihood either starting or finishing in the dark. A headlight and red flasher are REQUIRED. Obey the law, don’t be LAME, remember this is FUN. Masks Required. Observe all COVID protocols. When in the passenger cabin on the ferry minimize intragroup socializing and do not combine tables.
