February 19, 2022 @ 7:30 am - 3:00 pm PST

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 7:30 am on day third of February, repeating until February 15, 2025

Join the Methow Valley Nordic Ski Education Foundation (MVNSEF) and Methow Trails for this unique and fun event. Celebrate skiing with a tour of the wonderful trails of the Methow Valley! Choose your trails and your distance: 30K, 50K or 80K and a 10K for kids. Yummy food will be provided at the Mazama Community Center and free bus shuttles are available to the various start and end points.

The Tour of the Methow is free to Methow Valley Nordic members and Methow Trails members, and costs $10 for non-members. All participants are asked to REGISTER or you can mail a check to M

Methow Trails passes are required for those 18+.

The full Tour course goes from the Cub Creek Trailhead over Rendezvous Pass and down to Mazama (30km), then around the Early Winters part of the system and back to Mazama (20km), and finally from Mazama to Winthrop (30km).

Needless to say most participants choose to do only a portion of the full 80km, and you can do whichever portions you like, starting at Cub Creek, Mazama, Winthrop, or trailheads in between. Whatever part of the course you choose, you won’t want to skip lunch at the Mazama Community Club.

The entire course will be marked with ToM signs, but please bring a trail map if you are not familiar with the trails. Maps are available at the Methow Trails office, and at many stores in the area.

Kid’s Loops: There will be marked 10km and 5km loops starting and finishing in Mazama. Kids and families are welcome!

Shuttle Busses:
We have the ability to provide two school shuttle busses for the Tour this year, taking participants to both starting points (Cub Ck and Mazama) and also providing a return route from Mazama, late-morning. We will be filling the busses on a first-registered, first-served basis and only have space for the first 100 participants so please arrive early and sign up for the Tour now to ensure your spot!

The bus times are as follows:
7:30 am from Mazama to Winthrop (and then to Cub Creek)
8:00 am from Winthrop (Town Trailhead) to Cub Creek
10:00 am from Winthrop (Town Trailhead) to Mazama Community Center
11:00 am Departs from Mazama Community Center to Winthrop (Town Trailhead)

Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to bus departure time so that we may check you in and provide your ribbon for the Tour and lunch.

Equipment will not be allowed inside the passenger area of the busses. There is undercarriage space for all skis and poles, but for the safety of passengers and driver visibility no skis or poles can board the busses with you.

Lunch at the Mazama Community Center:
After hours of climbing through the Rendezvous or circumnavigating the Arrowleaf loop, you’ve got a hunger inside you! Come in and warm yourself with some delicious lunch at the Community Center, free for all participants. Bring your Tour ribbon and your appetite! Lunch and snacks are available from 10am until 3pm

Cost is FREE for MVNSEF and Methow Trails members. Cost is $10 for non-members. All participants can register and pay online. Checks can also be mailed to MVNSEF PO Box 1063, Winthrop, WA 98862.

The Tour takes place on Methow Trails trails. We are a business partner with Methow Trails. Please make sure you have a trail pass and display it when on the trails.

The Tour of the Methow is held in honor of Lee Adams. Lee loved the outdoors and was passionate about cross country skiing in the Methow Valley. When he lost his life in a tragic accident on Mount Rainier his loved ones donated memorial funds to the Methow Nordic Club (part of the Methow Valley Nordic Ski Education Foundation). Those funds have been used to put benches in the Early Winters part of the trail system, as well as to sponsor the Tour of the Methow.

This institution operates under special use permit with the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. This institution is an equal opportunity provider.
