Lost Lake 50k | 25k

May 4, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 6:00 pm PDT

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 8:00 am on day first of May, repeating until May 6, 2023

The Lost Lake 50k is not only scenic, but will be quite challenging as well. The 7,100 feet of elevation gain will melt away when you see the San Juan Islands to the west, the Skagit farmlands to the south, the town of Bellingham and Canadian mountains to the north, and amazing views of Mt. Baker and North Cascades to the East. Surrounded by lush old-growth forests (where you would expect to run into Bigfoot), runners will pass by Fragrance and Lost Lakes. These lakes are only a few of the many treasures along the way. On a clear day, no trail description could ever do justice to the true beauty of this area where the Cascades plunge into the ocean. There are several challenging, leg-burning, steep ascents, slow, technical, rolling ridges, and a limited supply of fast “free speed” on the descents.

The Lost Lake 25k, while only half the distance, starts out with a brutal climb up the Pine and Cedar Trail–1,400ft in just over 2 miles. The course follows the final 25k of the 50k course as it winds through ferns and mud, up to the rocky Raptor Ridge lookout and around Fragrance Lake, before plummeting down to the finish at Larrabee State Park’s Lost Lake Trailhead parking lot.

Race Distance: 25K & 50K
Starting Time 25k: 10 am
There is a 8 hour time limit

Starting Time 50K: 8 am
There is a 10 hour time limit —- 1:30 pm cut off time at Pine & Cedar Aid Station, mile 16.3
5 pm cut off for both courses at Mile 29.2 (50k), 12.7 (25k)

There will be NO EARLY START for either race distances

Location: Chuckanut Mountain, Bellingham, WA
Awards: Top 3 men and top 3 women (regular start). Finishers medal to all finishers.

Bib Pick-up
There is no bib pick-up the day before the race. All bib pick-up is done the morning of the race. I recommend to get to the race start 45 mins to 1 hour prior to the start to help secure yourself a good parking spot and to get your bib.

Drop Bags
There are no drop bags for the 25k race. There is one drop bag for the 50k and that will be located at the Pine and Cedar aid station (~16.3 miles). Please be mindful of how big your drop bags are.

Take I-5 to Bellingham to Exit 250 (WA-11 S/OLD FAIRHAVEN PKWY), head West onto WA-11/OLD FAIRHAVEN PKWY. Continue to follow WA-11 for 1.3 miles. Turn LEFT onto WA-11/12TH ST. Continue to follow WA-11 for 5.3 miles. The Clayton Beach parking lot will be on the left hand side of Chuckanut Drive.

25k Shuttle
There is a shuttle for the 25k that will shuttle ALL runners from the start/finish at the Lost Lake Day Use Parking Lot to the start of the 25k at the Pine and Cedar Trailhead. Please do not park at the start of the 25k. The bus will leave the Lost Lake Day Use Parking Lot no later than 9:30AM. This should give you about 20 minutes at the start to get your last minute things ready.

A Washington State Discover Pass is required to park in the Lost Lake Trailhead parking lot or anywhere else in Larrabee State Park. You can buy a pass at the park on the morning of the race or you can purchase one online. A one-day pass is $10 and an annual pass is $30. Passes can be purchased from the state website or at vendors where state fishing and hunting licenses are sold. Passes should also be available on race morning.
