Ochoco Gravel Grinder and Festival
July 24 - July 25
An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day fourth of July, repeating until July 27, 2025
Ochoco Gravel Grinder and Festival is two days of racing/riding some of the best gravel roads in Oregon during the most beautiful time of year. As many who have raced the Cascade Classic know, July is the best time of year to visit Bend and surrounding Central Oregon area. Warm summer days and cool nights with low humidity, make for ideal riding conditions. The Ochoco National Forest is a beautiful place with minimal traffic, located an hour east of Bend, Oregon.
The Ochoco Gravel Grinder consists of two full days.
Both Saturday and Sunday will offer a Big Grinder as well as a Small Grinder course to choose from.
Day one will take riders on a huge loop around Big Summit Prairie and up over the stunning Mount Pisgah as they head towards the eastern boundaries of the Ochoco National Forest. Big Grinders will race 80+ miles with 6000 feet of climbing while the Small Grinders will race 50 miles and roughly 4000 feet of climbing. Mountain streams, high prairies, and stunning views will be prevalent throughout the day. Keep an eye out for the many heard of elk, antelope, and even wild horses that call these high parries and forests home.
Day two will take riders through large stands of Ponderosa and Fir trees as well as past many unique geological features in the northwestern section of the Ochoco National Forest. The Big Grinder course will be 70+ miles and close to 5000 feet of climbing. The Small Grinder course will be nearly 50 miles and 4000+ feet of climbing. Both days feature very minimal traffic.
NEW E-BIKE CATEGORY!
For 2021 there will be a new e-bike category for this year’s Ochoco Gravel Grinder. This will be a test event to see how the riders/bikes fare and our support of both bike and rider. There will be charging stations setup each night where you can recharge your e-bike battery along with your other electronics. The e-bike category will be limited to 25 riders and spots will be sold on a first come first-served basis. Riders must ride the small grinder courses. E-bike riders will be timed but not scored as a race. It is the mission of Team Breakaway to provide all that want to experience this amazing event have an opportunity to do so.
The Ochoco Gravel Grinder is more than just racing it is an experience. We are excited to announce the inclusion of the Ochoco Gravel Festival. The festival will provide riders the opportunity to camp onsite and have meals provided as well as access to restrooms, hot showers, beer/whiskey bar, meals, music and entertainment. Camping will open on Friday night and extend to Sunday afternoon. We will offer both tent and RV camping.
