A RIDE LIKE NO OTHER

Each year on the first Sunday in August, cyclists have the extraordinary opportunity to ride the iconic Hurricane Ridge road when it is closed to all motor vehicles. Starting at sea level from the Port Angeles City Pier, or from the optional start at the Heart of the Hills ranger station, riders ascend through the Olympic National Park, past old growth fir, distant glaciers, and Alpine Meadows, to the stunning viewpoints of Hurricane Ridge.

For one special morning the road belongs only to the cyclists.

Ride The Hurricane is not a race, but a challenging, recreational ride through the gorgeous vistas of Hurricane Ridge Road in the Olympic National Park, absent of motorized vehicles. The road will be closed to motor traffic from 7 am to 12 pm, providing the unique opportunity to enjoy a summertime ride on a closed National Park road.

ROUTES

THE LEGACY ROUTE | This route has a new starting point from the Port Angeles City Pier for a true Sea-level beginning. Please plan to be down off the road by noon when it opens to motor vehicle traffic.

CENTURY ROUTE | Continue beyond the traditional Legacy Route and tackle the Olympic Discovery Century. This expanded route will combine a a mile and a half ride out to sea along Ediz Hook, mile-high alpine ascent, downhill return, and the ever-changing scenery of the Olympic Discovery Trail.

RIDE DAY INFO

Hurricane Ridge is only closed until noon, so please plan to be off the road before then.

PARKING
Downtown Port Angeles has plenty of free parking, and we’ve rented the bus transit lanes for additional parking.

CHECK IN FOR THE RIDE
If you’re going to be in town on Friday or Saturday before the ride we encourage you to stop by the Port Angeles Visitors Center (right next door to City Pier where the ride begins) and get your ride packet. That will allow you to skip the check in line on ride day and head up the hill whenever you’d like. Century cyclist can also use early check in or look for the Century Check In table on the day of the ride.

Early Check in:
Friday, July 30th and Saturday, July 31st from 4 pm — 8 pm at 121 E. Railroad Ave. (right next door to the Port Angeles Visitors Center)

Ride Day Check In:
6 am to 11 am at Port Angeles City Pier

AFTER RIDE CELEBRATION

Please join us on Port Angeles City Pier for a local beer from Barhop brewery, soft drinks, and a taco bar from Little Devil’s Lunchbox. The food and drink is included in your registration fee. Be sure to have your ID handy if you plan to enjoy a beer!
