As Seattle takes a step forward, WSDOT, agency partners and sponsors invite you to celebrate the past, present, and future of the Emerald City. With this theme in mind, Step Forward will be a weekend full of festivities including a bike ride, tunnel walk, art festival on the viaduct and of course the Tunnel to Viaduct 8K!
Our goal is to reflect on the past while exploring Seattle’s future. By participating in the 8K run/walk, you will be one of the first people to ever step foot in the new tunnel while also capitalizing on one last opportunity (seriously, this time we mean it) to run atop Seattle’s iconic viaduct, taking in breathtaking views of Seattle’s skyline and the Puget Sound.
Run like the viaduct is collapsing behind you! (Note: it won’t!) This is the final run on the viaduct before it’s torn down, and the first ever run through the new tunnel.
The Tunnel to Viaduct 8K will head south on the upper deck of the new SR 99 Tunnel and will return on the lower deck of the viaduct returning north through the Battery Street Tunnel. Please note, this course is not flat; both the tunnel and viaduct have moderate elevation gain.

All participants will receive an event bib and Tunnel to Viaduct 8K event shirt. A limited number of commemorative medals will be available for purchase ($12) during the registration process.
Parking will be available at surrounding surface lots and garages. Parking in Seattle Center parking lots will be pre-sold during registration for $20 and will include the 5th Ave Garage (at Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) and Mercer Garage (4th & Mercer). These garages will sell out prior to the event.
Due to the size of the event and limited parking options for a race of this size, we suggest other modes of transportation including: Car Share Options, Public Transportation (buses), Light Rail (Westlake Station then walking to start line, estimated 6 blocks), Monorail from Westlake Center, or biking to the event. Bike corrals will be available for participants who choose this option
START LINE – WAVE/CORRAL START INFORMATION
The Tunnel to Viaduct 8K will begin at the southbound entrance to the new SR 99 Tunnel located at 6th Ave N & Harrison St. Due to the size of the race and size of roadways, the race will begin in waves based on participants estimated finish times. For safety reasons, only participants wearing the official Tunnel to Viaduct 8K bibs will be allowed within the start corrals.
How do I know which corral to start in? Your bib will have a corral designation on it when you receive it.
Can I start in a different corral? If you’d like to start in a corral ahead of yours, please visit the help desk when collecting your race materials at packet pickup. There will be no corral changes on race day.
I’d like to run with my friends, can I? Yes, you can all run together, but to do so, you will need to start in the last corral of your group. No runners will be allowed in corrals starting before theirs, but you will be allowed to move back corrals.
Corral map coming soon. Please check back closer to race date to see where your corral will be located in relation to the start line.

All participants will need to have exited the southern end of the SR 99 Tunnel and on 1st Ave S by 10:30am (2-mile point). All participants will need to be off the 8K route by 11:00am.
