Wallace Falls Trail Run Half Marathon | 22.4 mi | 50 km

An event every year that begins at 6:30 am on day first of March, repeating until April 1, 2023
Come run a late winter trail race and enjoy views of Middle and Upper Wallace Falls, Wallace Lake, Jay Lake, and whatever weather nature throws our way.
The loop course is a mix of trail and gravel road grade with some steep climbing, flat to rolling sections, and winding descent. There is about 2400 ft of elevation gain for the half marathon, 4200 ft for the 22.4 mi, and 6000 ft for the 50 km. Time limit eextended to 10 hours for 50 km.
Proceeds to be donated to Snohomish County Volunteer Search and Rescue to help support their mission, “That others may live!”
Wallace Falls Trail Run follows a loop course, with an out and back near the middle of the first loop. Runners will start at the Wallace Falls trailhead, run up the Woody trail, out the upper grade (logging road) to the Wallace Lake aid station, down the Greg Ball trail and the RR Grade trail back to the start/finish and trailhead aid station. On the first loop, at the Wallace Lake aid station, runners will also run out to Jay Lake and back, then continue the loop. Half marathon runners will have a short out and back on the RR grade before turning onto the Woody trail. Runners doing the 22.4 mi will run a second loop without the Jay Lake out and back. Runners doing the 50 km will run 2nd and 3rd loops without the Jay Lake out and back. The 50k may actually be closer to 52k.
On the Woody trail, runners will have views of the Wallace River and Middle and Upper Wallace Falls. Runners will have views of the Skykomish valley from the upper grade, and if it’s not too cloudy, all the way out to the Olympic mountains. There are also great lake views at the Wallace Lake aid station and around the lake toward the Jay Lake trail.
Most of the climbing is on the Woody trail. It has several short climbs and descents early, then gets steeper nearing the waterfalls. The upper grade, road grade around Wallace Lake and Jay Lake trail are flat to rolling with a couple short climbs. The road grade to the Greg Ball trail has a short climb, followed by a moderate rolling descent. Most of the downhill is on the single track Greg Ball trail, which has some flowing twists and turns, a couple steeper sections and a few switchbacks. The RR Grade to the finish is mostly downhill, about 500ft over 2.3 mi with a couple small rollers.
Expect to get your feet wet whether or not it’s raining, which is very likely this time of year. Depending on how wet the Winter is, there could be multiple water crossings.

There will be full aid stations with water, electrolyte drink, fruit, carb rich snacks and salty snacks at Wallace Lake and the trailhead start/finish area. If you have specific dietary or other needs, carry them with you. Drop bags and crew are also allowed between loops for 50 km and 22.4 mi runners at the start/finish area.

Please try to check in at least 30 minutes before your race start time. Pre-race briefings will begin about 10 minutes before each race starts.
6:30 am – packet pick up opens
7:00 – early start for 50 km runners expecting to take over 10 hours
8:00 – 50 km race start
8:30 – 22.4 mi race start
9:00 – half marathon race start
12:00 – 50 km cut off to start loop 2
1:50 – 22.4 mi cut off to start loop 2
3:00 – 50 km cut off to start loop 3
6:00 – course closes all for distances
Safety and race rules
-The trails are open to other users. Please be courteous when passing. Most of other users will likely be on the Woody trail.
-While the course will be well marked, navigation and safety are the runners’ own responsibilities.
-Please allow faster runners to pass. But it is the passing runner’s responsibility to let others know they wish to pass.
-If you choose to use headphones, keep the volume low or one ear free so you can hear other people, race volunteers and officials.
-No dogs on the course with runners, spectators, crew or volunteers. Our insurance and permits don’t allow pets.
-Be aware that other park users may have dogs. They are required to be leashed, but not everyone does.
-Let aid station staff or park staff know if you have trouble with any other park users or animals.
-No cutting the course, including switchbacks.
-Obey all posted park signs.
-Please follow instructions of park staff, race staff, volunteers and first aid personnel.
-Runners must check in and out at each aid station.
-No crew on course. Crew is only allowed at the start/finish aid station at the trailhead.
-Drop bags are allowed at the start/finish trailhead aid station. Please write your name and bib number on your drop bag.
-7:00 am early start is available only for 50 km runners who expect to take longer than 10 hours. Early start runners are not eligible for finishing awards. Official finish times will be at least 10 hours, even if you finish more quickly. If you expect to take longer than 11 hours to finish the 50 km, please consider entering one of the shorter distances. Our permits will only allow the course to stay open until 6:00 pm. No early start for 22.4 mi or half marathon.
-Loop cut off times will be strictly enforced. You must leave the start area on the next loop before the cut off time or receive a DNF. Runners who start their final loop before the cut off, but fail to finish before the course closes will receive a DNF. There will be no changing distance after you start your race.
-Runners dropping out anywhere other than the trailhead start/finish area may have to make their own way out. Runners who drop at the Wallace Lake aid station may have to wait for an extended period of time for a ride.
-All participants (or parent/legal guardian if under 18 years old) must electronically sign the waiver during registration. Participants registering on race day must sign the waiver during registration.
-Distance changes can be done through Ultrasignup until registration closes on February 27. You can also drop to a shorter distance on the day of the race before the race starts.
-There will be no refunds for dropping to a shorter distance.
-No refunds for failing to start or finish the race.
-If we cancel the event, we will issue full refunds.
