For over forty years, the Tour of the Unknown Coast and Avenue of the Giants cycling event has been welcoming cyclists of all ages and abilities to join us for a day of fun and fellowship on two wheels in Humboldt County, CA. You can choose your own adventure from our selection of routes, including the classic Tour of the Unknown Coast century ride, the Avenue of the Giants century ride, a 100K ride, a 50 mile ride, a 22 mile ride and a 10 mile family ride. All riders will receive a Finishers Patch, and we’ll have t-shirts for sale at the event. After your ride, plan to stick around for the post-ride festivities, including a deep pit barbecue lunch and live music.

History

Before it became an organized event, the route used today for the Tour of the Unknown Coast Century was a favorite route among Humboldt County’s serious cyclists. In 1977, a group of these hardcore riders got together for an informal race for bragging rights over who could finish the loop the fastest. From this informal but enthusiastic beginning, the event known as the Tour of the Unknown Coast was officially launched in 1978.

Over time, event organizers recognized that not everyone wants to suffer through 100 miles in a day, and shorter routes were introduced, including the 50 mile and 100K rides. Eventually, the TUC expanded even further to encourage riders of all ages and abilities to take part by adding the family friendly 22 mile and 10 mile routes.

Start Times

Tour of the Unknown Coast Century: 7:00 am
Avenue of the Giants Century: 7:00 am
100 Kilometer: 9:00 am
50 Mile: 9:30 am
22 Mile: 10:00 am
10 Mile: 11:30 am

NOTE: Century riders are encouraged to set off before the 7 am mass start if necessary in order to finish in time to enjoy the post ride festivities.
