Cyndi Gets a New Bike

As part of this year’s Cycle the WAVE event (happening this Sunday 9/18); the organization’s leadership brought Cyndi Garcia to town from Santa Clarita, CA to do the ride because of the positive effect cycling has had in helping her to break the cycle of domestic violence.

As of this morning the event had over 1,050 pre-registered riders, so the event is exceeding expectations. As a result of their success in the Seattle area, the Cycle the WAVE leadership is investigating expanding the ride to other regions.

When she arrived at Veloce Velo on Mercer Island, Cyndi thought she was just getting outfitted with a loaner bike to ride over the weekend. It turned out, however, that Graham of Veloce Velo gave her a sweet Scott Contessa Speedster. Cynthia’s previous bike was an old hybrid that was falling into disrepair, and not up to her ambitions to ride longer distances at faster paces. I asked Cynthia if the macho side of road cycling culture was intimidating to her; she said she doesn’t feel intimidated and in fact likes the challenge of riding with guys who are faster than her. The new Contessa will definitely help her stay in the mix with her cycling buddies.

Graham from Veloce Velo informs Cynthia that the Scott Contessa is hers to keep.
Join Cynthia this weekend at Cycle the WAVE, where she will be riding the Burly Girl ~62 mile route.
