Juneuary Peace Peloton: Access, Mentorship, Economics

June 29, 2020 by David Longdon 1 Comment

Despite dreary, cold, wet Juneuary atmospheric conditions, about 200 activists joined Saturday's Peace Peloton bike ride. The Peace Peloton rides are happening about every other week with a goal of raising awareness and inspiring actions that support economic reforms for Black people. Saturday's ride started at Central Cafe and Juice Bar, looped down to Seward Park, and … [Read more...] about Juneuary Peace Peloton: Access, Mentorship, Economics

Seattle’s Peace Peloton

June 8, 2020 by David Longdon Leave a Comment

The emotional stress of the pandemic, combined with the nearly real-time video of the brutal, nonchalant murder of Mr Floyd has ignited a global movement of solidarity. Former officer Chauvin gave Trump's reality TV show presidency a gruesome pre-GOP convention distraction from his administration's bungling, flat-footed, amateurish, deceitful response to the coronavirus … [Read more...] about Seattle’s Peace Peloton

Stone Cold Covid

April 12, 2020 by David Longdon Leave a Comment

On any given weekend, one of my go-to activities is urban hiking. During normal times, I'll head out for a long walk with a dining destination in mind. With a petite Sony RX100 camera in hand, I try to capture glimpses of Seattle's mood on that particular day. View my Covid Captures. This covid weekend, camera in hand, I headed out for a walk under the strongest … [Read more...] about Stone Cold Covid

Life at the Speed of Bike

March 28, 2020 by David Longdon 2 Comments

From the east side of the 520 bridge: Seattle. Pretty. Infected.

Well. I've started writing a "coronavirus post" a couple times in the last few weeks. Distraction, redirection, and infuriation have come hour by hour, that is for sure. Often when I write, I start with a brain-fart concept that often ends up being the title. This time around it's been flickering between two competing alternatives: an uplifting "Life at the Speed of … [Read more...] about Life at the Speed of Bike

Ballard Criterium 2020: Cycling + Mile Runs?

June 17, 2019 by David Longdon 1 Comment

Conditions for the 2019 Ballard Criterium presented by Carter Volkswagen were spectacular. We are fortunate to have the Ballard Crit as an ongoing event in the Pacific Northwest cycling race calendar. At the beginning of 2018 there was some question about whether it would continue. The Apex Cycling Team has been managing the event since 2014, and according to team … [Read more...] about Ballard Criterium 2020: Cycling + Mile Runs?

Ballard Criterium 2019 & Pre-Party

May 14, 2019 by David Longdon Leave a Comment

Saturday June 8 marks the 26th edition of the Ballard Criterium. The now classic Seattle cycling race began in 1994 when it was hosted by Bill Devaney of the Ray’s Boathouse Cycling Club. Devaney hosted it through 1997. David Douglas (who organizes the event rides for the Cascade Bicycle Club, and the Seward Park Thursday Night Series) ran it between 1998 through 2007. … [Read more...] about Ballard Criterium 2019 & Pre-Party

September 2, 2018 by David Longdon Leave a Comment

Thursday August 30 was the finale of the 2018 Voler Thursday Night Cycling Series at Seward Park. The late summer light filtered through the trees and clouds just long enough to get a few dramatic pictures during the 6:00 race. Final results 7:00 PM Race: Teddy Schwartz Nick Bennette Will Teal 6:00 Race: Chris Wilson Rodney Brandon Dave … [Read more...] about Seward Park 2018 Finale
