The Seattle area has cultivated a very strong support system for women interested in racing bikes. Every Fall the women’s teams, coordinated by Martha Walsh and Gina Kavesh, host a series of rides that serve as an introduction to group riding skills, and as a way to meet women active in the local race scene.
Sunday’s ride was the last in the 2013 series. Riders meet in Leschi, and pedal around the south end of Lake Washington with the option to do some additional miles around Mercer Island:

As many of you know, Meet the Teams season is winding down here in Seattle. For speedy, competitive types a racing-focused team is one outlet, but many of us are also inspired to channel our cycling energy in philanthropic directions.
When you think of Starbucks, what comes to mind? Beverages, yes? Unfortunately, due to a busy schedule this Fall, this Saturday's Meet the Team ride with Team Native Planet was the first one I could attend. As a newcomer to Seattle, this was also my first visit to the weekly Saturday morning Leschi lycra show.
After the Thanksgiving day Northwest Harvest ride, I had the opportunity to chat over coffee with a half-dozen members of First Rate Mortgage. "FRM" is a well-established team with a serious racing focus, and includes some of the best racers in the Pacific Northwest.
