NY Times: In The Climb, follow the trials and tribulations of 41-year-old web journalist and novice cyclist Rob Mackey who signed up to ride L’Etape du Tour, a single stage of the Tour de France open to amateurs. Rob will be cycling this year’s stage 10, 105 miles from Pau to Hautacam via the infamous Col de Tourmalet. Rob has never ridden over 50 miles. The reassuring advice from his coach: “It’s not impossible.” Good luck Rob!
Washington Post: An Easier Way Up discusses the health benefits of cycling in general and hill climbing in particular. The article includes some great tips on how to climb better.
The print version of yesterday's Wall Street Journal (Tuesday October 9, 2007, page D 1) has an article describing an emerging trend that the number of senior athletes (defined as athletes over 40) is growing, and so is interest in sports medicine tailored for these athletes.
