Upcoming: Cycling the Monster Climbs of the Eastern Sierra

In case you missed this on all the various other media streams, Tom Meloy and I are giving a multimedia presentation at REI Seattle called Cycling the Monster Climbs of the Eastern Sierra.

Against dramatic vertical relief, Tom Meloy grinds up Onion Valley Rd, one of the hardest climbs in the Eastern Sierra.

Tom is an avid climber who convinced me the cycling in the Eastern Sierra had the potential to be at least as epic as the major climbs in Europe. While I’ve never cycled in Europe, I think Tom was correct–the trip was memorable in several respects and he says he plans to visit the area again.

The presentation will include maps, elevation profiles, pictures and some short videos of the California climbs, and Tom’s developed some data tables that compare the California climbs with those in Europe. In addition to the presentation, I have a hunch that some of the Seattle area’s strongest cyclists will be in attendance I expect an interesting discussion with the audience.

With all this information, my hope is that everyone leaves inspired to accomplish big things this cycling season!

When: Tuesday Feb 9, 7PM
Where: REI Seattle
