Cyclocross is often described as “steeplechase on bikes.”

Cyclocross courses are closed loops with man-made obstacles like hurdles (barriers), stairs, or overpasses, and natural hazards like roots, rocks, sand, and mud.

One of the hallmarks of cyclocross is that in order to become proficient, riders necessarily need to develop nimble bike handling skills. To help riders in the Seattle area develop these skills, NW MTB Series hosts Cyclocross at the Jerry Baker Memorial Velodrome every Wednesday evening through November 27th. The professionally-coached classes are lead by Russell Stevenson, Matt Hill, Jess Cutler, Joe Martin and Toby Swanson. Coach Jessica Cutler also periodically leads ‘cross clinics supported by Rapha Seattle.
