As we watch the Lance Armstrong doping circus escalate, I think the real story is about amateurs who dope.
Year before last (or was it last year?) a Seattle area masters track champion tested positive for a banned substance at an event where he set a world record…and there are reports from around the country of category 3 racers who have been caught using banned Performance Enhancing Drugs (PEDs). I’m willing to bet this is just the tip of the iceberg and that a significant number of amateur racers use PEDs. I also wonder how many folks on big event rides–like STP or RAMROD use PEDs (excluding coffee and pastries). I bet some do.
While I think the best “dope” is a healthy diet, I honestly think I’d consider taking a little HGH/Testosterone cocktail for the “anti-aging benefits” if there was conclusive proof of no ill effects. Purely to delay the effects of time, of course.
