Meanwhile in Middleville, Michigan:

Seattle ultra cyclist Chris Ragsdale is competing against 323 others in the National 24 Hour Challenge this weekend. Chris has a fairly long history at this event, all at the top of the podium:

2006: 470.2 miles: 1st Place
2007: 502.6 miles: 1st place and event record
2008: 473.2 miles: 1st place and age group record
2009: 480.1 miles: 1st place and age group record
2010: 494.8 miles: 1st place and age group record

This year he aims to set a new course record of 503 miles (that’s an average speed of 20.96 mph, including pit stops).

Into the night: Chris Ragsdale gets back into the race during the 2009 event.
The event begins at 8:00AM today with a bagpipe band to inspire the riders as they depart from Thornapple Kellogg Middle School. Riders start with a 120 mile loop in rolling to hilly terrain. After returning to the start area, the riders cycle a 24-mile rolling loop that goes through the Yankee Springs Recreation area. Finally, overnight until 8:00 am Sunday morning, they ride a 7.5 mile fairly flat loop beginning and ending at the Middle School.
