Glenn Erickson, Seattle frame builder and national class racer, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease last August. The good news is that he is doing great – working hard, training with his team, and looking forward to many years of riding and leading tours in Europe. The not so good news is that Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological degenerative disease with no cure at this time. Fortunately, Glenn has responded well to his medications; plus his disease is progressing slowly with only minimal symptoms.
Glenn and Nancy Erickson, along with Team Byrne Invent, have made a commitment to raise awareness of this disease and to support organizations that help fund research on finding a cure and/or helping people with Parkinson’s live as normal and fulfilled life as possible. To this end Glenn and Nancy have chosen to support the Davis Phinney Foundation. Davis Phinney, world renowned cyclist and Olympian, has been living with Parkinson’s for 12 years, and has worked tirelessly through his foundation to raise awareness and funding for research. For us, what better way to show our support than a benefit bike ride, with all funds raised going to the Davis Phinney Foundation.
Please join Glenn, Nancy and Team Byrne Invent for a unique benefit ride on May 24th. For many years, one of Glenn Erickson’s favorite activities has been participating in team and group training rides. This benefit ride has been created along these lines, and participants may join one of three separate group training rides:
The first group will be for all cat 1, 2, 3 and other very strong riders. This group will ride a long course of 75 miles and will be led by Galen Erickson.
The second group led by Glenn Erickson will go 63 miles and is intended for all master riders and all other strong riders.
A short ride of 33 miles will be led by Nancy Erickson and will be a moderate paced social ride.
Cyclists who prefer to ride alone or in small groups are welcome to ride any of the three courses at their own pace.
Donations of $10 or more will be accepted at the start of the ride. All checks can be made out to the Davis Phinney Foundation. No credit cards.
