Upcoming: Feb 17 Major Taylor Project Spinathon

CycleU Coach and Major Taylor Project Director Ed Ewing is hosting a spinathon to raise funds for the Major Taylor Project. Ed has set up options to participate in the spinathon, donate, or both.

Named after Marshall “Major” Taylor, a turn of the century African-American bicycle track champion, the Major Taylor Project reaches young, diverse, passionate students and provides them with unique opportunities for personal growth and empowerment through cycling.

The accomplishments of the Major Taylor participants are truly inspiring: High-school age riders participate in training rides that culminate in riding the Seattle to Portland.

Coach Ed says: “It is thrilling to witness these young people, some of whom have never ridden bikes, begin their training in the spring and train to the point of where they can finish the 200 mile STP!”

Many of the Major Taylor teens are economically challenged and better than 70% of students receive free/reduced lunch. Cycling together promotes teamwork, and gives them the opportunity to experience the success of achieving an intimidating objective.

Spinathon participants can ride for 1hr, 2hrs, or all 3hrs. One-hour time slots are at 5-6pm, 6-7pm, or 7-8pm.

So many of us have developed meaningful relationships and a strong sense of community and accomplishment through cycling. Let’s help the Major Taylor kids have the same experience!

For more information or to schedule a slot in the spinathon, contact Ed Ewing or Darcy Mullen.
